C & E holds CHED-endorsed business analytics faculty training

C & E Publishing, Inc. conducted the first series of the Business Analytics Training (BAT) Applied in Business Programs endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education from September 27 to October 1 to help college educators determine the scope of the course syllabus, identify and apply analytical tools and methods that are appropriate in business programs, and discover sources for learning exercises.

More than 20 deans and faculty members from 10 higher education institutions (HEIs) in Luzon and the National Capital Region who teach business courses including marketing management, business management, business economics, financial management, operations management, human resource management, business mathematics, information technology or computer science, and business statistics attended BAT Series 1. The program consisted of two parts: three-day face-to-face sessions from September 27 to 29 at the C & E Information and Resource Center in South Triangle, Quezon City for lectures on descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics, presentation of group project, and integration; and two-day online sessions from September 30 to October 1 for online submissions of case studies and final project.

Prof. Jed Loma, managing director of the Institute of Business Analytics and an expert trainer in systems thinking and fundamentals of business analytics, delivered the lectures and facilitated the program, while Prof. Cynthia Abella, BAT Series program director and University of the East faculty member, provided the program overview.

The BAT Series is a response to the need of HEI educators for training following CHED’s Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 12 Series of 2013. The CMO prescribes the specialization track on business analytics in information technology education due to the growing global market opportunity for analytics, which the Philippines can take advantage of considering its high English literacy rate, low costs, growing technical skills, and proven success and experience in business process outsourcing (BPO).

As stated in CMO 12, the objective of the business analytics track is not simply to impart basic business knowledge, but to instill and nurture important qualities and skills in students that are essential for future business leadership and organizational success in the industry. In addition, starting academic year 2018, all business programs will offer the business analytics subjects, Fundamentals of Business Analytics and Data Warehousing, which total six units.
