C & E Publishing, Inc. conducted the second leg of the senior high school (SHS) teachers’ seminar titled “Education Revolution: Say Hi to Senior High” last January 25 at the C & E Information and Resource Center in Quezon City. More than 80 faculty members and school administrators from 34 private schools in Pampanga, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Sur, and the National Capital Region attended the activity.

The seminar, which aims to address the concerns of educators regarding the implementation of the SHS program in 2016, was first conducted on November 27, 2015. Its success prompted C & E to turn it into a seminar series to reach out to more private schools nationwide.

For the second time, Dr. Dalisay Brawner and Dr. Isagani Cruz served as resource speakers.

Brawner, the vice president for academic affairs of the University of Makati (UMak), delivered her lecture titled “The SHS Pilot Program: Sharing the University of Makati’s Experience,” which reviewed and assessed the pilot-testing of the SHS program at UMak from school year 2012–2013 to school year 2015–2016.

Cruz, a former Department of Education undersecretary, tackled various teaching methodologies and learning materials for the SHS program in his lecture titled “The Learner, the Textbook, and the Teacher.”

Workshops for selected core subjects were held after the lectures. Dr. Cruz, and UMak professors Maria Carmela Sison and Clarence Ella Alipio facilitated the workshops for mathematics, science, and English, respectively.

Aside from lectures and workshops, KITE Academy, C & E’s own end-to-end learning solution brand that comprises tools for interactive lesson creation and distribution with classroom monitoring functionalities, was highlighted. Also exhibited were evaluation copies of adaptations of science, math, and English textbooks by international partner-publisher Cengage Learning.

In his welcome message, Rene Mupas, C & E assistant vice president for higher education and CE-Logic, said that teachers, students, parents, and publishers must unite to resolve the problems brought about by curricular changes in basic education.

The next leg of the seminar series will be held in Cebu and Davao in February.
