CE-Logic, Inc. provides e-textbook solutions to publishers, introduces new e-textbook platform

CE-Logic, Inc. introduced a new e-textbook platform to publishers in a gathering held at the Information and Resource Center in Quezon City on March 26.

VitalSource Bookshelf, the e-textbook platform, is a product of Vital Source Technologies, Inc., which has partnered with CE-Logic, Inc. in September 2013 as its Philippine reseller. It seeks to provide innovative solutions to publishers and ease of use to educational institutions through e-textbooks.

Representatives of 10 local publishing companies, namely, Abiva Publishing House, Inc., Anvil Publishing, C & E Publishing, Inc., Don Bosco Press, Ephesians Inc., FNB Educational Inc., Gabay Eskwela Publishing House, Hope Publishing House, Inc., ICI Ministries-Foundation Inc., and Vicente Publishing House attended the event titled Beyond Print: E-Textbook Solutions to Publishers.

VitalSource Bookshelf aims to address the needs of institutions for a single, unified, multi-publisher platform that is easy to learn, support, integrate, access, and has a 24/7 local help desk. It is one of the most advanced readers in the world today with more than 3.25 million users on 6,000 campuses in 200 countries. It currently has more than seven million textbooks that can run on multiple devices and allows users to read anytime, anywhere.

CE-Logic, Inc. Project Officer Rube Bloom Rule-Delacruz assured publishers that by availing of the VitalSource Bookshelf Solutions Package, they are entitled to benefits including a ready-made platform, firm content security, multiple device compatibility, flexible distribution methods that do not compromise security, reduced manpower, and reduced institutional costs in terms of technical support and training.

Dr. Isagani Cruz, a renowned writer, columnist, and self-proclaimed techie, pointed out that with a reliable e-textbook platform like VitalSource and with the growing Internet and smartphone usage in the Philippines as reported in The State of Philippine Internet Usage 2013 Infographic, new business opportunities open up for publishers.

“E-book is basically the wave of the future,” said Mark Joseph Flores, Basic Education Division General Manager of C & E Publishing, Inc., in support of Cruz’s view on e-books. He explained that in venturing into the digital market, publishers should be able to provide end-to-end solutions to clients, which include a proprietary e-reader and an online distribution platform.
