In its sixth year, CE-Logic, Inc.’s signature event, the National Electronic Conference held on May 19 and 20 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila equipped more than 100 librarians, library directors, and presidents of universities and colleges with information about digital library planning, management, and maintenance.

With the theme “E-volution: Surviving the Emerging Challenges in the Digital Age,” a series of lectures by well-respected names in the fields of library and information science, education, and digital publishing highlighted the event.

Four resource speakers graced the event on the first day of the conference. They were UP Diliman College of Engineering Library Head Sharon Maria Esposo-Betan who discussed how to set up digital libraries in her lecture titled “Engage: Sharing Electronic Library Resources the Maroon Way,” Cengage Learning Asia Senior Product Manager Vincent Cheah who expounded on international digital library management methods in his talk titled “Enrich: Effective Strategies in Digital Planning and Maintenance,” Philippine eLib Project Collection Development and Business Teams Chairman Salvacion Manuel-Arlante who talked about the conversion of printed educational resources into electronic format in her lecture titled “Explore: The Digitization of Library Resources,” and Miriam College High School Principal Dr. Edizon Fermin who delivered a lecture titled “Examine: ASEAN 2015 and Its Implications to the Philippine Educational System,” which probed on the possible effects to the local academic system of the anticipated integration of Southeast Asian nations next year.

Meanwhile, Dr. Teresita Semana, Director of the Commission on Higher Education Office of Policy, Planning, Research and Information, and Dr. Isagani Cruz, Adviser of the Steering Committee of the K-12 Program of the Philippine government, delivered the last two lectures on the second day of the conference titled “Empower: Insights on the Utilization of Online Resources in Academic Libraries” and “Expand: Investing in a Modern Library System to Elevate Philippine Education,” respectively.

CE-Logic Chief Operating Officer John Emyl Eugenio and Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. Transmedia Director Edric Calma gave the welcome and opening remarks, respectively, while CE-Logic Product Development and Management Division Head Nieves Darroca delivered the closing remarks.

To give the delegates a breather, an entertainment-filled fellowship night titled “Spark: Igniting Possibilities” was held on May 19. Other activities included a business forum, business meetings with publishers, product presentations, and two raffle draws where three Acer Power Banks and an Acer Tablet were given away.
